Quote of the Day
Metaphysics is the finding of bad reason for what we believe upon instincts; but to find reasons is no less an instinct.

read your article about the moral ambiguity of our country. how long did it take you to cook the history books! if it wasent for us winning the war youd be doing the goose step today! wise up! or hush up!

Dear “ really p..... off ”,
Thank you for your comments on my article: 'The Moral Ambiguity of The United States' , and for airing your overzealous 'patriotism'.
Excessive patriotic displays are, in my opinion, pretentious and vulgar and will neither increase, nor decrease, the greatness of your country, or any other country for the matter of that. Samuel Johnson said: "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" (Boswell Life vol. 2, p. 348. 1775).
The greatness of your country is universally recognized for its achivements and unbounded generosity. Superfluous flag waving, and tumultuous patriotism is unnecessary.
You are sorely mistaken in assuming that I "cook(ed) the history books". Surely you're aware of the self evident difference between 'cooking history books', and an article based upon material acquired from the historic records. All the events outlined in my article are accompanied with the 'names' of those involved, and the 'locations' and 'dates', all of which are, as I previously mentioned above, matters of historic records; thus your assumptions disappear.
Your suggestion that if the United States had not 'won the war', we'd be now 'doing the goose-step' disregards the fact that there were other participants who contributed towards 'winning the war', that is to say, France, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and to a lesser extent China. And you also omitted the fact that, the then president of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt (32nd president of the United States ( 1933–45)), only abandoned isolationism and entered the war subsequent to the Empire of Japan's attack on Oahu Island, Pearl Harbour, Hawaii at 0755 hrs (l.t.) on 7 December, 1941, precisely 2-years, 3-months after World War II had begun (September 1939); involving virtually every country until the closures of the theatres in 1945.
In conclusion, the 'goose step', wouldn't be recommended for those with musculoskeletal disorders. And, from an historical perspective, I would suggest you - a connoisseur of 'history books' - try cooking up the "Back Door to War" recipe. Now there's a pretty dish to smack your chops on. A controversial dish, but very spicey. Thank you for your letter, and I hope to hear from you again; meanwhile, bon appétit!
